'Three Gates' is a simple but beautifully produced book with a sad side: Gillander's haunting photographs of three gates which lead into the garden show 'closed to the public' signs.
In Spring, 1996, following years of dispute with 'The Authorities,' the celebrated Scottish garden Little Sparta created by the late Ian Hamilton Finlay was closed to the public. Eventually Little Sparta opened to the public once again but please support The Little Sparta Trust to ensure the long-term survival of Ian Hamilton Finlay's greatest work of art. You can find out more about Ian Hamilton Finlay, Little Sparta and the work of The Little Sparta Trust by clicking on this link: Little Sparta.
